AIT participation 2012

Security is a trade fair at the top international level in the field of security and fire protection technology. It shapes the industry as a driver of innovation, meeting place for experts and hub for excellent business around the globe. Innovations and numerous product premieres are the focus of the fair.

In 2012, the AIT was represented at two exhibition stands with experts from the Mobility and Safety & Security departments. The following main points from research & development were presented:

 Critical infrastructure protection:

In order to significantly increase security in airports, underground railways and other infrastructures, AIT develops innovative video surveillance systems with real-time capability for searching for objects and persons as well as algorithms for the automatic configuration and calibration of multi-camera systems

Research area: Intelligent Camera Networks

Event safety through intelligent control of flows of people:

AIT experts are developing intelligent solutions for managing the constantly growing flow of people in order to achieve efficient utilisation of the transport infrastructure and guide people safely and comfortably to their destination.

Research area: Verkehrsmodellierung und -simulation

AuthentiFace - Faces as password:

With "AuthentiFace", AIT experts have developed a knowledge-based authentication scheme that is resistant to social engineering techniques such as shoulder surfing (e.g. looking over the shoulder at the ATM). The new method is based on the recognition of synthetic faces instead of abstract symbols and elegantly prevents the passphrase from being passed on in writing or verbally.

Research area: Optical Quantum Technology

Risk management in computer networks:

A technology has been developed at AIT to support the quantitative and holistic assessment of security in a given information infrastructure. In the so-called SERIMA method, risk measures are defined using game theory, which can be directly combined with operational measures. Thus the risk measure can be optimally adapted to a specific application or to a specific area in the company.
