Hybrid Energy Systems

Hybrid Energy Systems

Hybrid Energy Systems

Within the AIT Center for Energy, co-simulation has been identified as the most suitable method to facilitate the detailed analysis of integrated power systems. For this purpose, a combination of co-simulation-based approaches with hardware (controller-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop) is used. These methods and technologies will support the development of energy management systems with recovery streams in the industrial, building, and transportation sectors.

Objectives

Concept development

Design and operation of multicarrier energy systems with a focus on hybrid thermal-electrical networks
Integration of 4th generation district heating and cooling with electrical infrastructure

Method development

For the holistic assessment of hybrid energy systems, methods and workflows are required that consider both technical and economic aspects

Tool development

New tools for modeling, simulation, assessment and optimization of hybrid energy systems

RELEVANCE

Energy system integration and sector coupling.

Addresses techno-economic aspects with a focus on system-level design and operation
Has been identified as a key strategic element in several research roadmaps (SET-Plan, "Policy Paper on Energy and Climate Policy" of the Federation of Austrian Industries, etc.).
Becoming a new focus for R&D platforms (ETIP SNET, EERA JP ESI, etc.).

The transition to hybrid energy systems brings with it challenges

Establish AIT as a leader in supporting public and private sector stakeholders.
Services Offered: Transformation strategies, technology assessment, operational optimization, business model development.
