AIT strengthens its commitment to digital health

The AIT Digital Health Team is strengthening its European position in the field of digital health technologies: Günter Schreier, Thematic Coordinator for Digital Health Information Systems at the AIT Center for Health & Bioresources, has been appointed to the European Commission's eHealth Stakeholder Group as a representative of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO). This appointment enables the AIT to play an active role in shaping the digital future of healthcare in Europe on behalf of the EARTO.

Digitalisation of the healthcare system

‘The digital transformation of the healthcare system offers enormous opportunities. At the same time, we are faced with the task of finding solutions that connect all European healthcare systems and ensure that artificial intelligence, telemedicine applications and many other digital healthcare technologies are used safely and efficiently. I look forward to working together on a sustainable and patient-centred digital healthcare landscape in the European Commission's eHealth Stakeholder Group,’ explains Günter Schreier. In order to create an integrated digital European healthcare system, the fragmentation of health data, lack of interoperability and security concerns in implementation must be addressed and resolved in a targeted manner.

Expert work in the eHealth Stakeholder Group

The eHealth Stakeholder Group brings together leading experts who are working together on strategies to overcome these challenges. Günter Schreier is the founder and chairman of the dHealth conference, the largest conference for digital health in Austria. He also teaches at Graz University of Technology and several universities of applied sciences, where he specialises in digital health technologies and medical informatics. With his extensive expertise in electronic health records, telemedicine and artificial intelligence, he is a key driver of digital transformation in the healthcare sector.

Advancing predictive and preventive healthcare with AI applications

Günter Schreier's appointment as an EARTO representative was actively supported by the EARTO working group ‘Emerging Technologies for Healthcare’. The EARTO working group comprises around 40 RTOs and is chaired by Dirk Holste (AIT).

‘The representation of EARTO by Dr Schreier in the eHealth Stakeholder Group of DG CNET of the European Commission underlines the central role of RTOs in research and innovation to advance the digital transformation in European healthcare systems. With its expertise, the AIT Center for Health & Bioresources will actively contribute to shaping Europe's digital healthcare landscape on behalf of its partners in the EARTO,’ explains Dirk Holste, Deputy Head of Center for Health & Bioresources at AIT.
