Vienna, 25 November 2025 – Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Andreas Kugi, Scientific Director of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Professor of Complex Dynamic Systems at TU Wien, was awarded the Cardinal Innitzer Award 2025 in the category Natural Sciences / Medicine in the presence of Cardinal Dr. Christoph Schönborn. The laudatory speech was given by Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Ulrike Diebold, Vice-President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW).
The award recognises Prof. Kugi's fundamental scientific contributions to systems and control engineering, in particular to the mathematical modelling and optimisation of complex industrial processes. His work ranges from energy and manufacturing systems to robotics and automation to autonomous systems and machine learning, and is considered groundbreaking in combining theory, simulation and industrial application.
