AIT Blood-Brain Barrier expert Winfried Neuhaus, Competence Unit Molecular Diagnostics of the AIT Center for Health and Bioresources, and Zameel Cader, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences - University of Oxford, publish the reference book "Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology of the Blood-Brain Barrier" as part of Springer Verlag's "Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology (HEP)" series.

The HEP volume "Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology of the Blood-Brain Barrier" (ISBN 978-3-030-99653-6) is now available in print and as an eBook from Springer Publishing. This book represents a comprehensive collection of current findings and leading research on the blood-brain barrier. The chapters are divided into four main parts:

  1. the basic information and new findings on the physiology of the blood-brain barrier.
  2. the challenges of finding and developing drugs that cross the blood-brain barrier
  3. experimental methods to study the blood-brain barrier
  4. the role of the blood-brain barrier in disease mechanisms and its implications for drug development.

This edited volume is aimed at a broad readership, from students to basic and applied scientists to pharmacologists, medical professionals, and experts in the pharmaceutical industry and related process and quality management. Due to its comprehensive content, the book has the potential to become a standard work in the field of blood-brain barrier research.

The Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology is one of the most important book series in the field of pharmacology. Leading international authorities provide comprehensive information from the most important areas of pharmacological research through their contributions. Each volume in the series claims to be the most informative and up-to-date presentation of the respective topic, making it an unsurpassed reference source. Published by Springer, the series is part of Springer Nature, one of the world's leading publishers of research, education, and professional publications.
