In the latest issue of the renowned German industry magazine BLECH, Dr. Carina Schlögl, project manager at the LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, presents the ProMetHeus research project.
The aim of the COMET-funded project is to systematically link material technology, digital tools, and AI methods for more resilient, energy-efficient, and sustainable production processes in the metal and plastics processing industry.
At the heart of the project are the ProMetTools – a digital toolbox for the entire process chain: from sensor technology and simulation to AI-supported process models and automated quality monitoring. The consortium of industry and research is focusing specifically on practical applications, including in the fields of titanium forming, direct recycling of sheet metal, aluminum casting, and data-based alloy development.
The interim results after the first project phase show that digital solutions can not only contribute to increasing efficiency, but are also a decisive lever for sustainable industrial transformation – in Austria and beyond.
