The IT pioneer and visionary Erwin Schoitsch is one of Austria’s leading internationally recognised experts in the development of software for safety-critical and highly reliable systems and has worked for more than 50 years in various roles at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and its predecessor organisations. The scientist, who for decades was entrusted with the development of safety-critical systems in the industrial and research sectors and has shaped international standards, has now been awarded the Badge of Honour by the Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering (OVE). The honour was conferred following a nomination by the editorial team of the MESS Micro Electronic Systems Symposium and a resolution by the OVE Executive Committee.
With this award, the OVE recognises in particular Schoitsch’s active membership of the editorial committee and his long-standing contribution to electrical engineering standardisation. The awarding of the Medal of Honour thus underlines his ongoing commitment to the further development of technical standards and professional exchange in the fields of electrical engineering and information technology.
Erwin Schoitsch has decades of experience in the fields of safety and security, reliable embedded systems and international standardisation. For many years, he has contributed his expertise to national and international technical committees, thereby making a significant contribution to the further development of standards for safety-critical technical systems.
The OVE Badge of Honour was awarded on 25 June 2026 in Vienna and recognises Schoitsch’s long-standing professional and voluntary commitment.
