The heat pump laboratory at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Giefinggasse 2 is currently being technically upgraded as part of a comprehensive expansion. The focus of the modernisation is a new test bench that will enable heat pumps with a heating capacity of 100 kW to be tested in future.
The modernised laboratory is scheduled to go into operation in October 2025.
New testing options for the heat transition
With the new test bench, the AIT is significantly expanding its infrastructure and creating improved conditions for applied research and industry-related testing. The expanded test environment offers the following options in particular:
- Heating and cooling operation under dynamic conditions
- Performance and efficiency measurements in accordance with EN 14511 / EN 14825
- Integration of smart grid and flexibility requirements
- Validation of digital twins and control strategies
Strengthening the role as an independent research partner
With this investment, the AIT is further expanding its role as an independent testing centre and leading research partner for industry, manufacturers and energy suppliers in the field of climate-friendly heating technologies. The new infrastructure makes an important contribution to the energy transition and the development of sustainable heating and cooling solutions.
The AIT is already available for cooperation enquiries within the scope of the new testing capacities.
