On August 23, a high-level Brazilian delegation visited Vienna as part of the Joint Commission on Science and Technology between Brazil and Austria. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen existing ties and identify new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of research and innovation.
The delegation included Ms. Vânia Gomes, Coordinator for International Bilateral Cooperation at the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, and Mr. Rafael Leal, Head of the Department for Science and Technology Promotion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Fabio Alves Schmidt da Silva also attended the meeting as a representative of the embassy. The highlight of their visit was a tour of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.
Mario Drobics, HoCU at the Center for Digital Safety & Security, Ross King, HoCU at the Center for Digital Safety & Security, Hubert Grün-Lutterotti, Expert at the Center for Transport Technologies, Dirk Holste, Deputy HoC at the Center for Health & Bioresources, and Christoph Mayr, Business Manager at the Center for Energy, presented a broad spectrum of research activities and expertise. Particular emphasis was placed on key areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable energy systems, innovative mobility solutions, and quantum technologies—all fields of high strategic relevance for both countries.
During intensive discussions, numerous topics of mutual interest were identified. Both sides emphasized their strong commitment to further expanding scientific and technological cooperation and to initiating concrete collaborative projects between Brazilian institutions and AIT.
The visit underscores the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges and sends a clear signal for deeper cooperation between Brazil and Austria in the field of research and innovation.
