AIT welcomes renowned battery researcher Professor Stefano Passerini as Senior Expert Advisor

In addition to his work at the AIT, Stefano Passerini is also a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from January 2023. In 2023, he served as a Professor in the Chemistry Department at Sapienza University of Rome, after retiring from his positions as Professor at KIT and Co-Director at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm. His research is focused on the fundamental understanding and development of materials for high-energy batteries and supercapacitors, aiming to create sustainable energy storage systems using environmentally friendly and readily available materials and processes.

An internationally recognized pioneer in the field of ionic liquids and the development of sodium-ion batteries, he has co-authored more than 700 scientific papers (with a Scopus H-Index of 121 and over 50,000 citations), contributed to several book chapters, and holds numerous international patents. In 2012, he received the Research Award from the Electrochemical Society Battery Division. Since 2015, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Power Sources. He was named a Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry in 2016 and of the Electrochemical Society Inc in 2020. Additionally, since 2019, he has been a member of the Leopoldina German Academy of Science.
