90 percent of traffic fatalities in Europe occur on minor roads – a problem that the European research project CAMBER is addressing. The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is contributing its expertise in data collection.
“With the high-performance RoadLab measuring vehicle and a specially developed measuring motorcycle, we can record and analyze road conditions and traffic flows in real time,” explains Isabela Erdelean, an expert in infrastructure technology at AIT. Supplemented by smartphone data and digital twins, targeted safety measures are to be developed and tested in five countries.
