The MOSAIC project took first place in the ‘Cyber Situation Picture’ category at the Austrian Armed Forces’ Innovision 2026. Organised for the first time by the Military Cyber Centre, this innovation initiative focused on current and future challenges in cyber defence, as well as innovative solutions from research, academia, industry and the military.
To this end, MOSAIC combines system logs, network traffic, security alerts, asset and service data, cyber threat intelligence (CTI), OSINT and mission information with methods from AI, machine learning, NLP, large language models and graph technologies. This enables technical events to be linked to threat intelligence and mission-relevant dependencies and presented, amongst other things, as cyber terrain mapping, network topologies or attack propagation.
The demonstrator is being implemented at TRL 3–4 based on the AIT AttackBed. In this realistic test environment, distributed infrastructures and various attack scenarios are simulated, and representative data is generated for analysis and visualisation.
MOSAIC thus combines AI-supported data fusion, technologies that can be operated with confidence, militarily relevant scenarios and a reusable test environment. The project lays the groundwork for future cyber situational awareness solutions whilst also supporting the definition of requirements for potential future procurements.
