AIT strongly represented at the conference of the Artery Society

04.12.2019
The annual Association for Research into Arterial Structure and Function took place this time in Budapest.

The conference of the Artery Society (Association for Research into Arterial Structure and Function) takes annually place in autumn, this year it was held in Budapest. This year the Competence Unit Biomedical Systems was particularly well represented with six scientific contributions. In addition, two awards were won this year underlining the importance of AIT's activities in the field of arterial stiffness.

An annual highlight of the event was the "Career Development Lecture", where three post-docs presented the progress of their scientific careers in the last years. This year Dr. Bernhard Hametner, Scientist in the Competence Unit Biomedical Systems, was selected from numerous applications for a lecture entitled "Quantification of pulse wave reflections: bridging theory and practice". The three presentations were judged by a jury and Bernhard Hametner became the winner. He joins a list of winners from the world's most renowned vascular stiffness research centers. In addition, Bernhard Hametner has also been the chairman of the "ARTERY Young Investigator Network" since this year.

On the evening of the award ceremony, Dr. Christopher Mayer, also a scientist in the Competence Unit Biomedical Systems, won the Artery Society Exchange Grant for Early Career Researchers. This financial support enables him to spend a short period of time researching with two clinical partners in Thessaloniki and Athens in the coming months. Next year he will be invited to present the results at the Artery Conference.
