Kick-off: Designing user-driven demand response services for flexibility in the electric system

11.05.2016

The Sim4Blocks kick-off meeting took place from April 5-6 at the Hochschule für Technik in Stuttgart. 41 representatives of 17 partner organizations from 8 different European countries attended the meeting and built the basis for successful collaboration and innovative research in the domain of efficient energy management in building blocks. Moreover, one of the test sites in the German city of Wüstenrot was visited by the participants.
The project Sim4Blocks aims at addressing the growing necessity for flexibility in the electric system by developing innovative demand response services for smaller residential and commercial customers. These services will be implemented and evaluated in three pilot studies in Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. Successful demand response models will be transferred to customers of project partners in further European countries.
At AIT, the Energy Department and the Innovation Systems Department are involved in the project. AIT leads work package 6 “User-driven energy management strategies”. In this work package, AIT Innovation Systems assesses and integrates user requirements regarding demand response systems into the design process, it designs and prototypes user interaction concepts for advanced feedback and management, and develops and evaluates personalized persuasive strategies with regard to a positive user experience, consumption savings, and activation impact.
