Team Austria takes First Place at Solar Decathlon 2013!
The winner of the Solar Decathlon 2013 is the team that best blended affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency, reports Solar Decathlon.

The Solar Decathlon is a biennial competition hosted by the US Department of Energy to promote the application of solar technologies in buildings. In January 2012, the DOE selected twenty university teams to compete in the Solar Decathlon 2013, which will be held in Irvine, California. During the week-long competition, the twenty homes designed and built by student teams were open to the public and evaluated by a jury. Team Austria was one of only two European teams invited to SD 2013 (the other being from the Czech Republic).

The first-time U.S. competitor consistently wowed juries with its LISI house, after winning first place in the Communications Contest, tying for second place in Market Appeal, and tying for third place in Engineering.

In measured contests, Team Austria received first place in both the Hot Water and Energy Balance contests. This was also the first time in Solar Decathlon history that every house produced more energy than it consumed!

Team Austria was cheered on by a delegation from Austria with Austrian Ambassador  Hans Peter Manz, President of the Supervisory Board Hannes Androsch, Managing Director Wolfgang Knoll, Head of Energy Department Brigitte Bach and Head of Corporate Communication Michael Hlava amongst them - thanks for keeping finger´s crossed!
