Computer Security for Industrial Control Systems at Nuclear Facilities

Together with representatives from the IAEA the AIT cyber security team hosted a special computer security training at AIT for the 2nd time. The course content builds on key IAEA guidance on computer security at nuclear facilities with participants completing several practical exercises with representative industrial control system and physical protection equipment that can be found in this kind of environment.

Topics that are covered in the course include understanding the nature of the cyber threat, how to take a graded approach to computer security, and implementing security using defence-in-depth. The course content builds on key IAEA guidance on computer security at nuclear facilities, such as IAEA NSS 33-T and NST 047. The course has a strong practical component, with participants completing several exercises with representative industrial control system and physical protection equipment that could be found in nuclear facilities. Additionally, there are exercises on network traffic analysis and security event management.

The AIT cyber security experts were delivering the course material alongside instructors from Ghana and France, and representatives from the IAEA. The course will be held again at AIT in 2020.
