Keynote on “Open Innovationby Karl-Heinz Leitner at the annual APA Science event

18.12.2015

AIT Senior Scientist Karl-Heinz Leitner from the Innovation Systems Department held the keynote to this year’s APA Science event, which focused on discussing the status quo and the perspectives of the Open Innovation concept. In his keynote Leitner explained the idea of Open Innovation and how the rise of social media encourages the success of Open Innovation concepts. He also presented findings of a recent study concerning the adoption of Open Innovation concepts within Austrian companies: For example, already roughly 25% of the 95 Austrian companies, which were analyzed for the study, pursue advanced Open Innovation strategies. A little more than half of the companies cooperate with selected partners when it comes to innovation activities.

The discussion, which followed Leitner’s keynote, supported the concept of Open Innovation and the participants weighed in on the positive effects of opening up innovation strategies in the industrial sector as well as in science and education.
