AIT Researcher elected into Board of Stakeholders of Photonics21 ETP

29.11.2017

Bernhard Schrenk from the Center for Digital Safety & Security at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology has been appointed as representative of the Photonics21 Board of Stakeholders during the recently concluded election.

The entry into the “photon century” unleashes various promising applications in the fields of ICT, lighting, industrial manufacturing, life science and safety. Many important European industries, from chip manufacturing, health care, space, defense and the transport and automotive sectors rely on the same fundamental mastery of light.

The European Technology Platform (ETP) Photonics21 has been established to enable industry and research to uphold their outstanding initiatives to explore the nearly limitless future applications of light and to reap the expected benefits in terms of creating both jobs and wealth. As such the ETP unites the majority of the leading photonics industries and relevant R&D stakeholders along the whole economic value chain throughout Europe. Today Photonics21 has more than 2500 members.

As the main decision-making body of this European Technology Platform, the Board of Stakeholders is carrying out strategic and operational matters. With this AIT will be able to safeguard Austrian interests during the coming years, while photonics as one of the key enabling technologies defined by the European Commission is turning its research findings into exploitable assets.
