Gold medal for EcoGrid EU

27.06.2016
Winner of the EUSEW Award 2016

We are proud to announce that the EcoGrid EU project is the winner of the prestigious EU Sustainable Energy Award 2016 in the consumer’s category. The prize was granted during the Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels from 13-17 June 2016. The project was chosen from a list of 200 projects for clean, secure and efficient energy.

From 2011-2015 the FP7 project EcoGrid EU has implemented a large-scale demonstration on the Danish island of Bornholm that supports active user participation to manage smart electricity distribution networks relying on renewable energy. The project aimed to allow small-scale and residential electricity consumers to participate in the power market and give a stronger voice to these customers.

AIT contributed to the project by developing concepts for flexible demand response and load management (peak load reduction) to guarantee grid safety and reliability. Another major contribution of AIT during the demonstration phase was the evaluation of the overall system performance on the basis of the smart meter data. By using advanced statistical analyses, the AIT experts tried to quantify the demand response achieved during the tests.
