AIT and its subsidiaries LKR and Profactor are part of the project consortium, which consists of a total of 17 Austrian companies, university (TU Wien, University of Vienna, and JKU), and non-university research institutions in Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and Styria—with project coordination handled by the TU Wien’s Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory.

Working closely with the hub’s partners, companies can evaluate and test customized digital technologies and development approaches. AI5innovation provides access to infrastructure for testing, measurements, and experimental runs, as well as for the development of new products and processes. This offering is complemented by a diverse training program that includes courses, webinars, and workshops on relevant topics related to digitalization and Industry 5.0. In addition, support is provided in the search for financing for investments. 

To assist companies, “Test-before-invest” (TBI) projects, among other initiatives, are carried out. For example, various research groups at AIT, in close collaboration with industry partners, are piloting concrete solutions in test environments, such as for automated quality inspection, adaptive robotics, or intelligent process control.

With its combination of technological excellence, a methodical approach, and industrial relevance, AI5innovation is a key building block for positioning Austria as a leading location for smart, resilient, and sustainable production.

Demand is high: Over the past three years, more than 180 digitalization projects have been implemented with companies throughout the hub. These use cases impressively demonstrate how AI and data-driven technologies can make production processes more efficient, sustainable, and flexible.

The initiative is now also being linked to the new AI Factory Austria (AI:AT). This close integration provides companies with a holistic approach to digitalization and AI—from the initial idea through testing to implementation. This creates a practical entry point into the use of AI for industrial applications and facilitates intensive technology transfer in the field of AI.
