AI Factory Austria AI:AT was established to support the private sector and the public sector in their use of artificial intelligence. Its primary aim is to make high-performance computing accessible to SMEs, start-ups, industry and public administration with as few barriers as possible, and to provide guidance on its practical application. AI:AT acts as a market-neutral, independent access point that brings together infrastructure access, hands-on expertise, capacity building and ecosystem networking.
AI:AT is jointly led by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and Advanced Computing Austria (ACA) as part of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (JU) and implemented by an Austria-wide consortium (TU Wien, University of Vienna, BOKU, University of Innsbruck, Graz University of Technology, JKU, ISTA, ÖAW, INiTS, EODC). AI:AT is strategically important for AIT because it systematically bridges the gap between research and applications that have a tangible economic and societal impact.
The service portfolio is structured so that organizations at various stages of maturity can quickly receive guidance and appropriate support without replacing existing market offerings. At its core, AI:AT offers low-threshold services such as support for accessing and onboarding European computing resources, data services, training and workshops, legal guidance, and access to the network. More in-depth services are also offered as needed.
Since the launch of the training and enablement program in July 2025, AI:AT has demonstrated a measurable impact. More than 20 training sessions with over 900 participants have been held; more than 40 projects and organizations have been supported, including startups and public administration institutions (e.g., the Austrian Court of Auditors); more than ten partnerships have been launched, and 30 events to strengthen the community have been organized (as of March 2026). At the same time, AI:AT supports organizations in accessing European high-performance computing resources and in mapping out and supporting computationally intensive AI projects in collaboration with the ecosystem. The website www.ai-at.eu has been established as the central entry point, including a regularly updated overview of training sessions and workshops.
The AI:AT Coworking Hub serves as a physical hub for project teams, exchange forums, and collaborations between startups, industry, research, and public administration. Currently, 94 coworking spaces are available across an area of approximately 1,800 square meters. As of March 2026, 67 coworkers from 28 companies and five industries are working at the hub. The supercomputer is being procured as part of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. It is expected to become operational in 2027.
