wins Hydrogen Europe Research Contest
The pioneering PH2ÖNIX project focuses on a hydrogen demonstrator operated at the AIT Tech Campus Seibersdorf, which investigates the behaviour of various electrolysis technologies under real, dynamic load profiles. In contrast to conventional concepts that connect electrolysers to the electricity grid to increase operating hours, PH2ÖNIX relies exclusively on direct coupling with a photovoltaic system. This enables sustainable and independent hydrogen production. Central research questions deal with the ageing of modern PV module technologies, the efficiency of different PV system
topologies for electrolysis applications and direct system coupling with hydrogen production.
The project was honoured as the winner in the “Value” category of the prestigious Hydrogen Europe Research Contest “Hydrogen Frontiers – The Future EU Landscape” during European Hydrogen Week in Brussels. This award recognises the project‘s exceptional potential for economic viability and value creation within the European hydrogen ecosystem.
PH2ÖNIX is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund as part of the programme “Model and Lighthouse Projects Photovoltaics”. The high-calibre award at the Hydrogen Europe Research Contest highlights the project as a key initiative for the future of the hydrogen economy and confirms the innovative power of the solutions for sustainable energy technologies developed at the AIT.
