The AIT Large-Scale Robotics Lab is a specialised facility for developing testing and validating autonomous work machines for use in outdoor areas. Research focuses on the automation of machines such as cranes and forklift trucks, which are intended to take over repetitive or dangerous tasks in the future. The aim is to reduce worker's workload, support them in their activities and at the same time increase productivity and safety in industrial processes. 

However, numerous technological challenges must first be overcome to enable the automation of such machines. These include the precise perception of the environment, the development of intelligent control systems and the optimisation of human-machine interaction. The test site at Tech Campus Seibersdorf offers ideal conditions for testing and further developing autonomous systems under realistic operating scenarios. 

Research at the Large-Scale Robotics Lab helps to alleviate the shortage of skilled labor in technical industries and at the same time create new, innovative solutions for the industrial use of autonomous machines.
