Summer University Green.Building.Solutions.

25.08.2015

Resources, energy efficiency and ecological building and planning – not only controversial topics in times of climate change and resource scarcity, but also central areas of interest for students of architecture, planning and engineering in their future professions.
As Austria is a leading country regarding green and passive house standards, the aim was to share this first-hand ecological knowledge, engineering expertise and best practice examples.  As a consequence from July 25 to August 16, 33 students from 15 different countries participated in the Summer University Green.Building.Solutions, organized by 6 Universities ( Boku, WU, TU, FH Campus Wien, Donauuniversität Krems) and AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria`s biggest Research and Technology Organisation.
AIT Energy Department offered the students insights into the research field Smart Buildings and its challenges and trends. Additionally, the Energy Experts of AIT presented results from national and international research projects on the nexus to the research topics smart cities, smart grids, photovoltaics and thermal energy systems.  On a tour of the outstanding laboratories the students got an insight into the sustainable office Building Energy Base.
AIT Senior Scientist Gerhard Zucker:.”More than 30 students designing energy efficient buildings using all their expertise, tools and cultural background – this is an intense experience. Seeing how the teams learn, cooperate and evolve with such a deep commitment tells me that we are doing the right thing”
