Concentrated know-how for battery research

18.11.2016
AIT does cutting-edge research into new battery technologies for electric mobility and renewable energy.

Powerful, environmentally friendly and cost-efficient batteries are the key to tomorrow’s electric cars and energy systems. AIT is working on these future issues and is intensifying its focus on battery research with a new research pilot line. Head of research and Principal Scientist Atanaska Trifonova intends to further extend AIT’s extensive portfolio of R&D services for industry.

Atanaska Trifonova is the head of battery technology research at AIT and was recently appointed the third, and the first female, Principal Scientist at AIT. This is the most senior level on the scientific career ladder and is reserved for researchers with the highest scientific qualifications, an international reputation, and strategic aptitude.

As a scientist of international repute, Trifonova sees the battery laboratory as making good progress. "We are the only institute in Austria able to cover the entire research chain of material and process development, from raw materials to cell design, right up to the systems level."

As Principal Scientist working in the field of battery technologies she has set herself ambitious targets. "Over the next five years we want to continue to expand the laboratory and to round off AIT’s portfolio of battery research services. A key element in this plan is our new research pilot line enabling the manufacture of components and cells under standard industrial conditions."
