Experience: Stefan Schrittwieser's main research interests target nanomaterials with distinct optical and/or magnetic characteristics, e.g. localized surface plasmons or magnetic effects at the nanoscale. This includes nanoparticle synthesis, nanoparticle surface modifications by specific proteins and antibodies, and the detection of biochemical interactions on the so modified surface. The research also includes the development of prototype setups to study optical and magnetic nanoparticle properties, which are employed to examine nanoparticle-protein interaction and to realize novel biomedical applications ranging from point-of-care diagnostics to medical imaging. Nanostructure characterization to reveal structural, optical, magnetic and hydrodynamic properties are accompanied by simulation and modeling approaches.
