Career

Field: New R&I Processes and Systems

Main Research: Strategic R&D Management, Technology Foresight, Science Mapping, Technology Scouting

Experience: Edgar Schiebel joined the AIT in January 1985, currently working as a senior scientist in the Innovations Systems Department. For more than 20 years he was head of the business unit “Technology Management” and worked as a research manager. He graduated as engineer for mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (1984), received his PhD in Management Science from the Vienna University of Technology (1997) and his business licence (Gewerbeberechtigung) from the Academy for Management Consulting Vienna (1998). Edgar is an expert in evidence based strategic research and technology (r&t) management. His research interest focuses on technology foresight combining qualitative and quantitative methods. He has been working extensively on science mapping and methods of observing science and technology dynamics in order to identify and examine emerging r&t issues, dynamics of networks of scientists and expert organizations. He developed the Software BibTechMonTM for the analysis and visualization of networks of r&d collaborations, intensities of activities in r&t issues, the identification of mainstream and emerging issues as well as weak signals in huge datasets of publications, projects and patents.
