Field: Smart Cities and Regions

Main Research: spatial modelling

Experience:

Wolfgang Loibl has studied Geography and Regional planning with master (1979) and doctoral degrees (1984)  from the Vienna University and holds a master degree in Organisation Development (2012). After 5 years working as a spatial planner, he was employed by AIT - Austrian Institute of Technology in (formerly known as Austrian Research Centre Seibersdorf), working as regional scientist, spatial planner and policy advisor in the field of urban and regional development, as well environmental planning and Impact assessment. His work is focusing on spatial analysis and modeling with emphasis on urban development, on environmental impact analysis, on climate change adaptation and the related policies at national and EU-levels.

Dr. Loibl is working with AIT for 30 years. He holds the position of a Senior Scientist and Thematic Coordinator for Smart Cities in AIT and is Deputy Head of the Business Unit “Sustainable Buildings and Cities” in the Energy Department. During ca. 15 years he was teaching GIS-based spatial modeling and systems modelling as University lecturer at Vienna and Graz University. He is engaged since long as project- and work package leader in various national and international projects.
