Main Research: Modelling, simulation and optimisation of district energy systems


Feasibility study of solutions to decarbonize heating and cooling networks (increasing the share of energy from renewable source and waste heat) and minimize thermal losses, primary energy consumption, production costs.
Paolo Leoni joined AIT as Research Engineer in November 2016 and has 10+ years of professional experience in the energy industry with particular focus on the production from renewable sources: geothermal, biomass, solar. Prior to his engagement at AIT, he was involved as Process Engineer in several R&D projects aimed at investigating innovative technologies, optimizing the process thermodynamic efficiency, finding possible synergies between different processes. His experience comprehends experimental activity on pilot, demo, and industrial scale, as well as model-based analysis and process optimization in simulation environments. Leoni holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pisa and a Diploma in Industrial and Information Engineering from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy.
