Main Research: Foresight and Horizon Scanning
Experience:
Dr. Joachim Klerx works in the field of political information systems and horizon scanning for more than 15 years at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT). His main focus of research is currently in the management of innovative networks in foresight and horizon scanning centers. He uses methods from the field of data mining (e.g. topic mining and emotion mining) and artificial intelligence, to develop intelligent software agents for information management. In a variety of national and international research projects, he has developed, among other things, a policy information system to manage the innovation system of the Vienna Region, intelligent "screening agents" to search for weak signals on the Internet and information retrieval agents to identify new threats to society on the Internet. In projects such as CONCERTO PLUS and the European foresight platform (EFP), Joachim Klerx directed the establishment and operation of major platforms for knowledge management in these networks.
Currently he is involved in the following research activities:
• Organizing a knowledge exchange network for security research (Inno4Sec)
• Setting up a horizon scanning center for cyber security with the Austrian Armed Forces
• Doing research on de-anonymizing transactions with virtual currencies, with dark net mining and social network analysis (BITCRIME)
• Setting up a test bed for future innovation in crisis and disaster management in Europe (DRIVER)
• And developing big data methods for automatic horizon scanning
