01.07.2021
Joint Webinar of AIT & United Nations

On 18th of June the Center of Digital Safety & Security, AIT and the UNCCT Border Security and Management Unit (BSM) jointly organized an online webinar on “Innovation at borders: the responsible use of biometrics to counter terrorism”. The opening remarks were delivered by the Chief of the UNCCT Counter Terrorism Section and by the Permanent Representative of the Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York.

The event offered an occasion to share conclusive remarks on the cycle of topical online discussions held over the past year on the use of new technologies in the context of border security to counter terrorism. An expert panel discussion followed and focused on Human Rights compliance, risk assessment procedures and technological standardization towards more effective interoperability of systems aimed to maintain a balance between trusting innovation and Human Rights compliance, while also countering and preventing terrorism. The webinar was attended by over 95 participants from 21 countries.

Furthermore, AIT & BSM underlined their strong international focused partnership by launching a joint online plattform on the responsible use of biometrics, informing stakeholders about worldwide leading-edge technology development by AIT in this field and about BSM‘s global initiatives in this context.
