Impressive AIT Appearance at global telecommunications conference ECOC

03.10.2019
8 Presentations secure a strong AIT presence at 45th ECOC 2019 in Dublin

With a total of 8 presentations at ECOC 2019, AIT was one of the most visible contributors to Europe’s largest conference on optical telecom technology from 22. – 26. September 2019. The team around AIT photonics expert and ERC grantee Bernhard Schrenk from AIT´s Center for Digital Safety & Security contributed this year’s edition with a large number of six accepted papers, which span over a wide range of timely and relevant research topics. These include free-space optical links between antenna sites and baseband units for radio-over-air transmission in 5G networks, cost-effective visible light communication based on Gb/s speed LED technology, ultra low-cost coherent transceivers for optical access networks, deep in-network monitoring enabled by spectral snooping through re-use of conventional transceivers, and a continuous-variable quantum key distribution system promising high 10 Mb/s key rates. An experimental demonstration of an all-optical neuron for fast optical neural networks, which received great applause, tops these works.

Besides this high number of contributed papers, which clearly demonstrates the innovative work of the group, AIT experts had been invited to deliver workshop and symposium talks. The AIT quantum expert Hannes Hübel and Bernhard Schrenk have shed light on photonic integration technology at the quantum age and low-cost coherent technology for data centers, respectively.

About ECOC

With ~6000 attendees and 350 exhibitors, ECOC is the largest European and second-largest global conference in the field of optical telecommunications. Roughly 440 presentations demonstrate cutting-edge research on telecom/datacom systems and photonic component technology.
