DRIVER+ (Driving Innovation in Crisis Management for European Resilience) is a project funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission, whose main aim is to stimulate the development and uptake of innovative Crisis Management solutions in Europe. The project has recently taken a major step with the launch of CMINE, the new Community of Practice that will foster a shared understanding in Crisis Management across Europe.
“CMINE will speed up innovation by bringing together crisis management practitioners, policy makers, researchers and businesses in an egalitarian forum for continuous exchange of ideas, experiences and lessons learned”,according to Dr. Todor Tagarev, head chair of CMINE and former Bulgarian minister of defence, Head of the Centre for Security and Defence Management.
This Community is expected to be a game changer in the world of Crisis Management, as it fosters closer connections at all levels and from all sectors and allows for closer, more sustainable exchange between stakeholders.
The main objectives of CMINE are to:
- Foster synergies between existing and future initiatives
- Facilitate knowledge exchange at regional, national and European level
- Increase the market uptake of solutions
- Reduce the current fragmentation of networks found in the Crisis Management landscape.
CMINE was launched at the latest Security Research Event, organised by the European Commission and the Austrian Presidency in Brussels on 5 and 6 December 2018.
Key component of CMINE will be the on-line exchange where participants will take part in discussions, learn from each other’s experience and share best practices, identify needs, gaps and opportunities for cooperation, complemented by face-to-face meetings and networking opportunities.
CMINE is a constantly evolving community. At its launch, three themes were established that reflect areas covered by the DRIVER+ Trials: Wildfires, Floods and Volunteer Management. The community is organised around different task groups, which will tackle specific, acute challenges that will be set up within each theme. The task groups will be free to choose which issue they wish to address, what shape their solution will take and how long their activities will last. A call for experts to actively participate in these working groups has been launched on January 16th and will last until February 6th. More information on the call for experts is available here.
In order to contribute to the establishment of a pan-European community, CMINE will grow and evolve in close collaboration with the European Commission and draw on the network and wealth of knowledge emanating from the Community of Users for Secure, Safe and Resilient Societies (CoU).
