InSPIRe – innovative aircraft ice protection

18.04.2018
Project Kick-off and Presentation at CleanSky Workshop

The EU CleanSky 2 project InSPIRe, Innovative Systems to Prevent Ice on Regional Aircraft, has held its kick-off meeting together with colleagues from the CIRA Icing Wind Tunnel facility at Leonardo’s Aircraft Division in Pomigliano d’Arco, Naples, Italy on March 7th and 8th, 2018.

In this project, scheduled to run from March 2018 to February 2021, an innovative, low power electrothermal ice protection system for future regional aircraft will be designed, developed, and finally demonstrated at CIRA.

The InSPIRe consortium is composed of two Austrian high tech SMEs, Villinger GmbH and Peak Technology GmbH, one renowned icing expert, AeroTex UK, and two Austrian RTOs: CEST and AIT, Center for Low-Emission Transport as coordinator.

InSPIRe was also presented by the coordinator at the "Structural Integration of Ice Protection Technologies" Workshop organized by the CleanSky Joint Undertaking on March 22nd, 2018 in Brussels. Here, the relevant European aircraft industry players, funding bodies, and the European aircraft certification body, EASA, discussed current trends in aircraft ice protection.

InSPIRe can be found on CORDIS under its Project ID: 785531; it won funding under the extremely competitive H2020-CS2-CFP06-2017-01 call.
