AAL Austria is an innovation platform funded by the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT). AAL Austria brings together technology providers, research organisations, care institutions and other relevant stakeholders in order to stimulate interdisciplinary cooperation for the development and deployment of assistive technologies.

Within the Center for Technology Experience, Markus Garschall focuses on the role of technology in enabling social innovation and the design and evaluation of novel user interaction concepts. He has participated in several national and European research projects related to the topic of active and healthy ageing, coordinating the projects vAssist (2011-2015) and SUCCESS (2017-2020). As speaker and organiser of national and international events and workshops, he addresses communication and collaboration challenges related to AAL and eHealth innovation. Since 2015, Markus is leading a working group on challenges in designing for an ageing society within the AAL Austria.

On 23 January 2017, a new management board was elected by the General Assembly of AAL Austria. Markus Garschall succeeds Mario Drobics (Center for Digital Safety & Security) who will intensify his focus on other thematic areas. In his new role, Markus will seek to further develop the successful partnership with AAL Austria and to strengthen the cooperation with the Austrian AAL community.
