Simple and cost-efficient electronic linkage of things opens up new ways of dynamic changes in value chains as well as in the dynamic of globally growing research interest. Edgar Schiebel, Senior Scientist at the Business Unit RTI Policy (Innovation Systems), recently presented a technology foresight on Internet of Things (IoT). It included an overview regarding global research on IoT, the geographical allocation, influential publications, competence centres and an outlook for future developments. In his speech at the 13th Forum of Innovation he gave an overview about the technology foresight approach of the Innovation Systems Department. It combines a scientometric mapping of research issues with the scenario planning. The scenario technique included a system analysis of IoT, drivers of change and three possible scenarios for the future development of the technology.
