Integrated Photovoltaic solutions

The integration of photovoltaic (PV) refers to the capacity of this technology to be multifunctional. The capability of a PV system to interact with the given application in order to maximize the local use of electricity generated is based on the PV modules, mounting systems and the energy system integration. AIT provides tools and solutions for PV integration in landscape (Agrivoltaics), buildings (BIPV) and public infrastructure​

New applications (Agrivoltaics)​

For the Austrian climate goal to cover the electricity consumption exclusively with renewable energy sources until 2030, it is necessary to install ground mounted PV power plants. Agricultural photovoltaics (Agrivoltaics) combines PV systems and agricultural production. AIT offers technological solutions for sustainable and economic implementation and operation of photovoltaic systems on agricultural land. ​

Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV)​

Roofs and facades offer great potential for solar use. AIT develops and optimizes components, modules and systems of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) as well as innovative integration solutions for planners, investors and building operators.​

Transport infrastructure​

The potential of the use of solar energy along the road and railway infrastructure, which has so far been largely unused. The multi-functional application of PV allows not only for electricity generation close to the transport infrastructure, but acts also as noise barrier, weather protection, prevents overheating of road surfaces and can therefore increase the lifetime of the road infrastructure. AIT offers appropriate technological solutions for sustainable and economic implementation and operation of photovoltaic systems on transport infrastructure.
