Hot water flexibility to electricity markets
The project HoWaFlex2Market aims to evaluate the actual value of flexibility of more than 1000 electric household boilers installed in the field and tested for different use cases. The use cases include self-consumption optimization as part of a joint generation unit, provision of balancing reserve, and testing load-shifting products. The focus of the automation strategy lies in the robustness of the control system. It will consider fairness aspects as well as the legal and regulatory framework, socio-economic factors, as well as user experience, and motivation. End customers will be involved in the process through the conduction of a survey, and another project focus will lie on the development of suitable tariffs. This project intends to bridge the last mile to a plug-and-forget product by increasing the mass suitability of prosumers' flexibility provision and transforming it into a product suitable for widespread use.
