Supports Vienna’s development towards a smart city.

In future Vienna is to stand out more than ever due to a sustainable energy system, intelligent mobility services and an efficient and liveable city and building structure. In a smart city, urban solutions for energy and CO2 savings through integrated approaches of energy and city planning are in demand.

The project Transform+ works out strategies and solutions in this context. Its work is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund, intensifying Austrian research efforts under the European TRANSFORM project, which aims to promote urban transformation strategies.

In the project this will be supported by conceiving a transformation plan and a Viennese “Smart City Working Group”, by communicating with various players and stakeholders in so-called “Stakeholder Forums”, as well as by creating (energy specific) data sets and quantitative analysis tools. Implementation-oriented planning work in two district areas (Liesing-Groß-Erlaa and aspern Urban Lakeside) is to further Vienna’s sustainable development at local level. The main emphasis is on optimised, area-specific energy and town planning. Two pilot actions that accompany the urban labs are the so-called “Smart Citizen Assistant” at aspern Urban Lakeside (a communication and information tool for inhabitants) and the “e-delivery” project (electric car sharing for businesses) in Liesing’s industrial area.

Further objectives consist in analysing relevant strategy processes and drawing up proposals for their future integration in the process of implementing the Smart City Wien initiative.
