To ensure public digital safety and security, our primary focus is to consult or develop advanced solutions based on visual/optical data (e.g. image, videos, cameras) for relevant stakeholders of authorities, critical infrastructure, and industries. Our automated, reliable solutions are developed for our customers’ operational environment and integrate classical or AI-based computer vision- algorithms. Our solutions empower safety and security agencies (e.g. law enforcement agencies) to process and interpret vast amounts of data.
The dynamic nature of the environment, in which our end users operate, necessitates a rapid and resource-efficient approach for analysing situations and detecting potential threats. The DSAI team provides automated, reliable, and user-friendly solutions that integrate computer vision-based algorithms for optical sensing, media intelligence, extended reality, and responsible biometrics.
Optical Sensing
Our research in Optical Sensing primarily focuses on automated event detection and environmental understanding in surveillance applications across various end-user domains and environments. Our AI-based innovations aim to expedite the reliable detection of critical outdoor events in both urban and remote terrain. While stationary technologies are based on commercial sensors commonly deployed in border and public areas, the rapidly changing nature of threats necessitates more innovative flexible and transportable optical sensing technologies. Media Intelligence
In the realm of Media Intelligence, our research focuses on (semi-)automatic analysis of large image and video datasets. In uncertain times a significant concern for public safety and security is the proliferation of manipulated or synthesized media that can influence public opinion. Examples such as DeepFaceLab, DALL E 2, Stable Diffusion or TikTok face filters mark a revealing moment for many people – both positive and negative – in understanding what AI can currently do in the field of image and video analysis. Extended Reality
In the Extended Reality research topic, we strive to develop training programs and simulation solutions based on immersive technologies that enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of safety and security organisations (e.g. first responder) in various critical scenarios by environmental understanding. These applications require innovative cooperative training possibilities for rarely dangerous situations or expensive realistic simulations (e.g. accidents on large areas requiring multiple safety & security organisations). The increasing impact of climate change introduces novel challenges, demanding training for events such as wood fires, flooding, and tornadoes. Read more
Responsible Biometrics
In the Responsible Biometrics research topic, we focus on consulting and developing reliable solutions for person identification and verification of identities (e.g. based on touchless fingerprint, face) in both physical and virtual access scenarios of security organisations. Security organisations like Law Enforcement Agencies are in need of simple, easy to use and cheap devices/solutions to identify individuals. Read more
