Cyber-Planspiel fuer den KSOe

The goals of the KSÖ Planning Game 2023 are:

  •  Involve Critical Infrastructure Operators, and thus both groups of essential and important submissions identified in the NIS2 Directive.
  • Explicitly target medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are likely to fall within the NIS2 scope. These could be major suppliers to manufacturing equipment or IT service providers (e.g., critical infrastructure or other essential service operators).
  • Societal impact on e.g. educational institutions if their ICT infrastructure is also affected, in terms of creating confusion among the population.
  • Addressing operational organizations and authorities of the federal government and explicitly of the federal states.
  • Inclusion of a visible clear technical mission-critical component (IT infrastructure and impact) that is essential for the company and its services/products.
  • Demonstration of the importance of information, communication and escalation lines within the affected companies, in interaction with suppliers and the authorities as well as European partners.
  • The focus is on the communication of the explicitly technical teams with their management as well as the horizontal technology-specific communication lines with the authorities, e.g. cert.at. (Challenge: "Communicate ICT in an understandable way").
  • Raising awareness of cybersecurity incidents and possible solutions and coping, especially in the SME sector.
  • Demonstrating the importance of having competent cybersecurity experts available during security incidents.
