European competences are combined in the H2020 research project eCAIMAN which is coordinated by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in order to develop an excellent lithium-ion battery for production in Europe. All components and their interaction are optimized in a targeted manner in order to build up a 5V cell. The aim is to increase the energy density by at least 20% compared to current products. In addition, a module is being developed which can be used in light and heavy duty vehicles as well as passenger cars. The high number of units resulting from the modularity is a contributing factor to cost reduction.
