The AIT is developing innovative AAL solutions with its partners from the worlds of research and business in order to tackle the huge challenge of demographic change.
AAL technologies (Active & Assisted Living) play a key role in this respect, i.e. age-appropriate assistance systems integrated into the living environment to support inhabitants in carrying out everyday tasks. A smart home of the future will feature a range of AAL-technologies designed to promote healthy, active aging and well-being to enable the elderly to stay in their homes as long as possible.
Active & Assisted Living is one of the most significant concerns for the future, its success directly dependent on bringing together interdisciplinary expertise. Consequently, several departments at AIT work on AAL systems, guaranteeing a sophisticated and integrated approach to this complex subject. The AIT has also become a well-regarded player at an international level as reflected by its involvement in large-scale European initiatives such as the AAL Joint Programme, the COST innovation network and some 20 international R&D projects.
