Long-term behaviour of asphalt surfaces

The aim of this investigation was to determine new key parameters for the pavement influence on road traffic noise emission of low-noise stone mastic asphalt road surfaces for a new edition of the Austrian guideline RVS 04.02.11, which provides the emission parameters forming the basis for all road traffic noise calculations in Austria. The measurement campaign included statistical and controlled pass-by measurements according to ISO 11819-1 at seven locations with low-noise stone mastic asphalt pavements with a maximum aggregate size of 11 mm. This type of road surface is one of the most widely used tools to achieve road traffic noise reductions at the source in the Austrian high-level road network.
