Pro-active Incident Management

(CEDR 2013, Traffic Management)

Non-recurrent events such as road accidents, vehicle breakdowns and extraordinary congestion – further denoted as traffic incidents – affect travel times, safety, environment and costs associated to these impacts. Therefore, road administrations must manage these incidents in a safe and efficient manner. Every country has its own traffic incident management regulations and strategies, but there is a need for a (harmonized and) practical guidance to an optimal balance of cost and risk factors. Furthermore, increased mobility and promising developments in information and communication technologies (ICT) open up new possibilities for handling or even preventing incidents. The PRIMA project introduces the idea of Pro-Active Incident Management with the following essential features:

  • Anticipatethat something may happen
  • Prepareto respond efficiently when the situation requires it
  • Respond and Monitordevelopments to minimize secondary effects

This project is funded under the CEDR Transnational Research Programme,Call 2013„Traffic Management“.http://www.cedr.fr/home/index.php?id=261
