Krisztina Rozgonyi, Senior Scientist at the AIT Center for Innovation Systems & Policy, has been appointed to the Council of Europe’s newly established expert committee “Media Regulators in a Platform-Based Environment” (MSI-eREG). Over the next two years, the committee will develop policy concept notes to inform the further evolution of media regulation in the digital platform age.
The committee is a key policy-making body for the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. Its work is relevant for national legislation, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and the European Commission’s media policy initiatives – particularly in the areas of platform regulation, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.
The focus is on assessing and adapting existing regulatory models to an information environment shaped by platforms, algorithmic systems and AI, while strengthening information integrity and regulatory independence. The policy concept notes developed by the committee will serve as a strategic foundation for future regulatory measures across Europe.
This engagement builds directly on research at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and within the AIT AI Ethics Lab, where we examine how AI systems, platform governance and regulatory design intersect in shaping democratic information environments.
