Artificial intelligence in the cultural and creative sectors: between potential and responsibility

24.02.2026

What impact does artificial intelligence have on the cultural and creative sectors – and how are institutions and creative professionals dealing with it? This question is explored in the recently published Assessment Report on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS).

Produced within the creative Europe project WONDERCUT, the report provides a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities, challenges, and implications of AI for cultural institutions and creative professionals. It draws on a policy and strategy review, focus groups with students and academic staff, as well as surveys and interviews with sector professionals.

The findings show that museums and cultural organisations are experimenting with AI in visitor engagement, collection management, and curatorial practice. AI is perceived as a relevant and increasingly necessary tool. At the same time, stakeholders emphasise the importance of ethical guidance, institutional capacity-building, and safeguarding artistic autonomy.

The conclusion is clear: AI is neither a threat nor a magic solution, but a powerful instrument whose value depends on how responsibly and thoughtfully it is applied.
