First issue of the redesigned Wirtschaftspolitische Blätter
 

The first issue of the redesigned Wirtschaftspolitische Blätter is now online.

To mark the relaunch, the journal is focussing on ‘Location and Competitiveness’ - a key topic that could hardly be more explosive. After all, Austria is facing serious challenges that require courageous economic policy decisions.

In addition to articles by Gabriel Felbermayr, Holger Bonin and Peter Klimek, there is also an interesting article by Bernhard Dachs (AIT Center for Innovation Systems & Policy) and Robert Stehrer (wiiw Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies).

In their article, they look at the importance and characteristics of companies involved in Austrian foreign trade.

Austria's prosperity depends largely on exports. The proportion of internationally active companies in the Austrian manufacturing industry has increased steadily in recent years. Exporting companies are on average larger, more productive, pay higher wages and salaries and invest more than companies that do not export. A small group of very export-orientated companies is responsible for a large part of Austria's export volume.
