04.08.2021

The "International Summer Academy in Engineering for Women" combines theory with practical experience in engineering and natural sciences. An interdisciplinary team from the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences and from other universities and organizations - including the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology - provides scientific and technical background information in lectures and workshops. In addition to imparting knowledge in these areas, the Summer Academy addresses social, intercultural and gender-specific aspects. The researchers address the impact of modern technologies on society and discuss the roles and opportunities of women in science with participants from all over the world.

Prospective female technology experts from 7 different countries gain insights into the daily work of AIT researcher Nicole Brosch

At the informal "Science Café", Nicole Brosch (AIT, High-Performance Vision Systems) and Katharina Pollack (ÖAW, Institute for Sound Research), among others, answered questions from the young audience. Both researchers also represented the IEEE WIE Austria. "The Science Café was very informal and provided the right atmosphere so that the young women could open up and ask their questions. We talked about our careers and current research topics, but also about our experiences as women in technology and what our daily work life is like. We were also asked what we thought were the advantages and disadvantages of working in a research vs. industry environment, etc. This reflection is always important for us as well. We were pleased that we could not only tell, but also advise," explains Nicole Brosch.
