"ZeroQ" identifies food and handles payment process

27.01.2021
Together with Dishtracker GmbH, AIT developed an app that uses image recognition and AI to simplify the purchasing process in the gastronomy sector.

ZeroQ" - the name is derived from "zero queue" - is an intuitive app for efficient processes in the gastronomy sector. Users pick up food from a serving point and take it directly to their seat. There, they scan (photograph) the food with the app and pay cashlessly via smartphone. The technical basis of the innovative project is the existing dishtracker technology, which uses image recognition and artificial intelligence (AI) to locate and distinguish between dishes.

Thus, the planned "ZeroQ" app supports the social distancing strategy by helping to avoid queues at the checkout. Design strategies from the field of persuasive technology motivate users to behave honestly and collaboratively. In particular, the topic of "social proof" in connection with possible fraud issues (including no payment, cheaper items, etc.) was examined more closely by the researchers of the AIT Center for Technology Experience in the course of the project and concrete countermeasures were developed.

Markus Murtinger, Head of Competence Unit Experience Business Transformation at the Center for Technology Experience, is enthusiastic about the exciting project collaboration and the interaction between AI technology and the user experience.
